I am passionate about advancement of circular and sustainable aquaculture practices, as well as the integrated Agri-Aquaculture systems (IAAS) to improve food security and foster positive social-economic transformations with minimal environmental impact.

I recently completed my academic training as a graduate researcher at the Aquatic Biodiversity Laboratory, College of Aquaculture and Fisheries, Can Tho University, Vietnam, under the framework of VLIR-NETWORK Project. My research study was centered on species composition of harmful algae and its potential to cause harm to aquatic organisms in freshwater and brackish-marine ecosystems in the Mekong Delta (in shrimp farms in Ca Mau) under a project funded by the Vietnamese Ministry of Education. The training and experience I received from the program reinforced my skills in water quality and phytoplankton analysis and enhanced my knowledge in the management of aquacultural environments.

In addition to that, I completed a research internship at ShrimpVet Laboratory (Minh Phu Aqua Mekong) were I was equipped with practical knowledge in various aspects of shrimp farming. Conducting research trials on innovative aquafeeds, feed additives, and bioassay challenge trials for shrimp disease management. I was also part of the technical and administration team dealing with international customers, introducing the company’s goals and services as well as oral presentations of research results.

I have also worked for the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GIZ Malawi under a project of aquaculture value chain as a national technical intern which gave me very good insight of the industry upon interaction with different stakeholders. I was privileged to work hand in hand with fish farmers by providing them with direct support through trainings and extension services with the Malawi Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture - Mzuzu Aquaculture Centre were I worked as a Technical Aquaculture intern. As a mentor of most farmers, I developed problem solving, leadership, teamwork and supervision skills. Working at Mzuzu fish farm gave me hands-on experience of fish farming (Tilapia culture).
