Phuc Nguyen

My full name is Nguyen Anh Hoang Phuc, I am from Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam. I have a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Science from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, my GPA is 8.52. I achieved outstanding academic performance in Faculty of Computer Science certificate when I graduated.

I have been interested in AI, especially computer vision since my junior year in university. I had around two years to research the Facial Recognition project, strengthening my computer vision knowledge. From the beginning, I used libraries like OpenCV, Dlib to research Face Detection. Then I researched Retina Face and replaced its backbone from Resnet-R50 to Efficient Net. I also researched and applied ArcFace for Facial feature extraction. After one year in recent company, I studied and gained more skills in AI engineer. During that time, I researched and accomplished many projects, I crawled text data from websites then I processed them with rule-based and tokenizers. I built models, then trained and evaluated models. After trying, making errors, and finding new knowledge in research many times, I love to research more papers, try and apply new technologies. 

I got my first job very soon in my senior year, and I had to do the graduate dissertation and work simultaneously. I got an offer to be a data scientist in the high technology company that is FPT Telecom Joint Stock company in Vietnam. However, four months later I had a chance to join the Vingroup AI engineer training program in the VinBigData Joint Stock company. In this training program, I met 60 talented and potential people in the AI field from different places. After four months of learning knowledge in specialized subjects and six months of internship, I accomplished many projects using cutting-edge knowledge in AI. This was also the first time I learned natural language processing and did two projects using one-hot encoding, bag-of-words, tokenizers, sequence-to-sequence, transformer, and BERT.

My name is Nguyen Anh Hoang Phuc, my hometown is a province next to Ho Chi Minh city, the biggest in Vietnam. I have been pursuing programming since I was in eighth grade. In the computer programming class, I studied Pascal - a programming language, and I fell in love with programming then. The first biggest milestone of mine was when I attended Long An High School for the Gifted and my class specialized in Computer Science. My class was the second batch of Computer Science in the school program which was still in the developing stage. So, I searched for other sources of learning material outside. I borrowed books from Specialized schools in Ho Chi Minh City and learned from videos on Youtube. Although students in my hometown schools did not have the opportunity for learning computer science compared to many large cities such as Ho Chi Minh and Ha Noi in Vietnam, many achievements during high school in programming competitions and especially the consolation prize in the Viet Nam National Secondary Student Science and Engineering Fair 2015-2016 helped me receive a direct offer to the Computer Science program at the Ho Chi Minh University of Technology. My teachers in high school and my parents did not believe I could major in Computer Science at that university because there were rare students in my province who successfully passed the school entrance exam.

Although I have been researching computer science very soon, the first time I began loving AI was when I was a sophomore student at the university. I collaborated with my two college friends to participate in the Bach Khoa Innovation context organized by the university. Through concentrating on research and trial, my team completed the first facial recognition program. I researched face detection and basic Convolutional neural network which were the fundamental knowledge for later computer vision research. In junior year, I had an internship course at the Cloud Nine Solutions company, and that job strengthened my research skill and teamwork skill. The Face-checkin project in that company helped me figure out the whole facial recognition baseline because I accomplished research on face detection, facial feature extraction, and communication with Jetson Nano. Moreover, I also annotated mirror image data by CVAT for the company. In my senior year, based on my knowledge of facial recognition before, I collaborated with two college friends to do the capstone project of the graduate dissertation. We developed the Facial Recognition Attendance System, while my tasks were researching and implementing more techniques for face detection like SSD, face tracking like Kalman filter, and classification label module by Faiss. I also built the message streaming between Jetson Nano and Google Cloud platform by Apache Kafka. Finally, my team's project can recognize face ID by training two images of each person and the system does not need to train a new model again when it registers a new user. With the deeper in each stage of my thesis, I absorbed various useful knowledge for my career.
